STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE

STEP 1: PLACEMENT TEST
The prospective student is asked to take a placement test in order for their level of English competence to be determined.

STEP 2: SETTING LEARNING GOALS
Once the student's level is determined, the tutor and the student set together some learning goals upon which the tutor will base the syllabus and structure of the course. The learning goals could include literally anything, from improving speaking skills and pronunciation to learning advanced grammar and new vocabulary for travelling or other everyday life situations.

STEP 3: TAILOR-MADE LESSONS
The instructor designs and delivers tailor-made lessons, adapted to the student's learning needs, thus facilitating the learning process and accelerating the student's progress.

The lessons' aim is to help the learner become a fluent and pleasant communicator, able to deal with all aspects of daily life in an English-speaking environment. By and large this is achieved by simulating everyday life situations, exploring numerous topics (Travel, Shopping, Technology, Food, etc.), and keeping all aspects of the course relevant to the learner's life and background.

OUR APPROACH TO TEACHING:

• student-centred, communicative method
• a wealth of passages, audio-visual material and other resources is used
• emphasis on the development of the productive skills (writing and speaking)
• grammar is always presented in a meaningful context along with a lot of opportunities for practice and reinforcement (through a variety of grammar exercises, as well as oral and written tasks)
• vocabulary items in the handout are grouped (with derivatives, synonyms, antonyms, useful expressions, other related vocabulary)
• at first, students are always encouraged to self-correct, find their way around unknown vocabulary, and come up with alternative ways of expressing themselves; then and only then does the instructor give language-specific feedback and guidance

STEP 4: LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT AND FEEDBACK
After important assessment, along with the test scores, the student also receives oral feedback with comments on progress made, areas of improvement, and recommendations.

STEP 5: CERTIFICATION
This stage is optional. Towards the end of the General English course, the student may request that the course be extended so that the learner prepares for one of the English language examinations offered by prestigious institutions such as Cambridge University, the University of Michigan, etc. with a view to obtaining a recognised language certificate.
