Learn how to properly refer to the days leading up to EasterIn this post we'll be introducing some basic vocabulary about Easter, especially the names of the days and period leading up to Easter Sunday. Let's begin, shall we? The week leading up to Easter Sunday is called Holy Week. Similarly, the days of the Holy Week are called Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, etc., but they may also be called Great and Holy Monday, Great and Holy Tuesday, etc. Holy Wednesday is also known as Spy Wednesday. Holy Thursday is also known as Maundy Thursday. Holy Friday is also known as Good Friday. What is Palm Sunday though? Palm Sunday is the day we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus in Jerusalem and it falls on the last Sunday before Easter, preceding the Holy Week. It's called Palm Sunday because there was a large crowd of people welcoming Jesus by spreading out palm branches before him as he was riding into the city on a donkey. Lent is a period of 40 days before Easter which is considered to be a period of fasting, moderation, and self-denial and that is traditionally observed by many Christians around the world. People give up meat and all kinds of animal products. Easter Sunday, or Easter Day, marks the end of Lent and it is the day we commemorate Jesus Christ's resurrection from death, which - as described in the New Testament - occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion. The day following Easter Sunday is called Easter Monday. Happy Easter everyone! Did you find this informative? If so, please like and share the post with others.
